About this Event

About this Learning Programme:

This four-day introductory level Oncology Education Programme provides the essential evidence based knowledge and skills to enable nurses and health professionals to safely and successfully carefor oncology patients.

This course provides an overview of cancer as a disease process including epidemiology, cell physiology, carcinogenics, treatment options and the physical and psychosocial impact of cancer on the patient.

Addiotionally, key topicssuch as breast cancer, lung cancer, upper GI, melonoma, radiotherapy, palliative care, psych-oncology, cancer clinical trials, acute oncology, biobanking, nutrition, and SLTin cancer care will be covered.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the programme, the learner will be able to:

  • Outline the national cancer prevention/screening strategies in Ireland
  • Identify the broad principles of cancer management as applied to diagnosis, staging, treatment and assessment of response
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the overall treatment modalities utilised in the in the management of cancer as a disease
  • Recognise the broad physical and psychosocial impact of cancer and its treatment on patients, families and staff

Mode of Delivery:

Face-to-face (with online supporting materials)

Course Duration:

4 days- November 7th, 12th, 19th and 26th 2024

Pre-requisites:

Registered nurses and allied health professionals working within the area of oncology/haematology or with an interest within oncology.

**Please register with a primary email address, as this will be used for course correspondents and to access supporting course materials.

Audience: This course is open to registered nurses and allied health professionals.

What will I get when I gave completed this course? Upon full attendance of the 4 study days, learners will obtain a Certificate of Completion as proof of training. Accredited by NMBI with 23 CEU's.

Cost: Free for St. James's Hospital staff. €400 for external participants.
