Fun and Educational Mushroom Workshop for Children and Parents or Carers

Join me for an introduction into the fascinating world of fungi. Did you know that mushrooms are actually the fruit of a hidden underground network called mycelium? Or that without fungi, plants and animals wouldn't have food, and dead things wouldn't be recycled? That is why all plants have partnerships with fungi that help them grow. In this workshop, I'll introduce you to the fascinating world of fungi and share some fun facts about these amazing organisms.

But the fun doesn't stop there. I will show you how you can grow your own mushrooms. You and your child will create your own mushroom bags that you can take home.

Are you ready to watch the magic of mushrooms come to life? The children can observe as the tiny threads of mycelium take over the substrate in a few days. And when the mycelium has fully colonised the bag, the fun really begins! You'll see baby mushrooms starting to form. And as the mushrooms continue to grow, you can literally watch them grow as they double in size every day. So, in just a few days, you’ll be able to harvest and cook the delicious Oyster mushrooms.

I love sharing my passion for mushrooms and that the children can participate in all the steps of preparing, growing and harvesting the mushrooms.

The workshop will take place at the Remakery, a cooperative workspace in Camberwell/Brixton.

The workshop is for children from the age of 8 together with a parent or carer. You can bring up to two children.
