Ages 12+
Working in a sketchbook—or "black book"—is an essential part of graffiti culture. Used by artists to practice techniques, develop ideas, and refine their personal style, black books serve as both creative laboratories and visual journals.
Join artist Leo Perez for an introduction to the fundamentals of graffiti-inspired lettering, color theory, and sketchbook development. Participants will explore basic letter structures, experiment with color schemes, and learn techniques that can help build confidence and artistic growth in this dynamic art form.
Each participant will receive a black sketchbook and paint markers to use throughout the workshop as they create original designs and begin building a personal collection of work.
Whether you're completely new to graffiti-inspired art or looking to strengthen your skills, this hands-on workshop offers a welcoming space to explore, experiment, and express yourself through urban art practices.
All materials will be provided. Free and open to the community, but registration is required.
This workshop is presented as part of Healing Illinois, a statewide initiative that supports community building, understanding, and healing through creative engagement and dialogue.
