Our annual Rice & Beans Festival is BACK and tastier than ever! On Saturday, September 20th, Fonseca Theatre Company invites you to join us for one of our favorite annual traditions: a joyful, free, family-friendly outdoor celebration of food, culture, and community.
Why rice and beans, you ask? Simple. It’s more than just a meal — it’s a story. From jollof rice in West Africa to red beans and rice in New Orleans, arroz con frijoles in Latin America to rajma chawal in India, this humble dish is a global comfort food. Affordable, nourishing, and deeply beloved across continents, rice and beans connect us through tradition, flavor, and heritage.

Local restaurants from every corner of the city will be serving up international takes on rice and beans, from spicy to savory to sweet. Come hungry and prepare to leave happy (and possibly in need of a nap).
🎶 Music, Art, and Good Vibes Only
But it’s not just about food (though, honestly, that would be enough). We’re turning our block into a cultural playground! Enjoy live music, browse local art and crafts, and get your groove on in the grass. There’ll be plenty for the kids to do, and more than enough fun for the grown folks to enjoy too.
