Many engineers never get further in understanding steel deck diaphragms than looking up numbers in a table. But to really tune-up diaphragm designs, it is important to understand exactly what the critical parameters are that determine diaphragm strength and stiffness. Without getting into deep analytical models, this session will demonstrate the variables that influence strength and stiffness for both roof and floor deck diaphragms, and will show that diaphragms are generic, not proprietary.
