FSCDR's 19th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium, and the 48th National Sickle Cell Disease Scientific Meeting is pleased to welcome football legend Deion Sanders "Coach Prime" as the Foundation Keynote on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 12:00pm EST. It will be a fireside chat, featuring a riveting conversation between him and FSCDR President, Dr. Lanetta Bronté.

Our Symposium attracts hundreds of unique individuals who are leading researchers, physicians, clinicians, stakeholders, advocates, and social workers with the common goal of finding better treatment and, ultimately, a cure for sickle cell disease. Our attendees also originate from every corner of the world, with our highest numbers originating from the United States and U.S. Territories, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ghana, Sierra Leone, France, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Uruguay, Jamaica, Haiti, and India.

Coach Prime will inspire attendees by sharing his own experience in defying expectations, overcoming adversity, and inspiring greatness, both on and off the field. Sanders was the first athlete in professional sports history to play in both the World Series and the Super Bowl. During his 14-season NFL career, he won two Super Bowls and played in the Pro Bowl eight times. He’s currently the head football coach at the University of Colorado, after leading the team at Jackson State University to back-to-back SWAC Championships. The sickle cell disease community will relate to their own battle of endurance, resilience, and mental toughness as he inspires them to keep fighting for better care for themselves and national attention to a disease that has been overlooked for too long.
