Frá nýja heiminum

Isabelle Faust hefur verið einn eftirsóttasti fiðluleikari heims um árabil. Hún er Íslendingum að góðu kunn eftir að hafa verið staðarlistamaður hjá Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands á árunum 2010-11 og heimsótt okkur nokkrum sinnum eftir það. Á þessum tónleikum leikur hún margverðlaunaðan fiðlukonsert eftir eitt þekktasta núlifandi tónskáld Ástralíu, Brett Dean, þar sem viðfangsefnið er hin týnda list bréfaskrifta. Þá verður frumflutt tónverkið Djúpið – Sálumessa eftir Hjálmar H. Ragnarsson, en hann lést í mars 2026. Í þessu tregafulla verki minnist hann vina og annarra sem gengið hafa af eigin hvötum yfir þröskuldinn sem aðskilur okkar verun og heim hins óþekkta. Djúpið – Sálumessa var síðasta hljómsveitarverkið sem Hjálmar lauk við. Tónleikunum lýkur svo með hinni sívinsælu sinfóníu Dvořáks, Frá nýja heiminum, sem snertir enn við áheyrendum með ó gleym an legum laglínum og hrífandi dramatík.

Isabelle Faust has been one of the world's most sought-after violinists for years. She is well known to Icelanders after being a resident artist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 2010-11 and visiting the orchestra several times since. In this concert, she will play an award-winning violin concerto by one of Australia's most renowned living composers, Brett Dean, whose subject is the lost art of letter writing. Then, The Deep – Requiem by Hjálmar H. Ragnarsson, who passed away in March 2026, will be premiered. In this melancholic work, he remembers friends and others who have, of their own accord, crossed the threshold that separates our lives from the world of the unknown. The Deep – Requiem was the last orchestral work that Hjálmar completed. The concert concludes with Dvořák's ever-popular symphony, From the New World, which still touches audiences with its unforgettable melodies and breathtaking drama.
