The ODU Symphony Orchestra’s season opening concert celebrates new developments in both science and music with a program of classical and new works associated with scientific innovation and exploration. Enjoy Gustav Holst’s musical depictions of Mars and Jupiter from The Planets, as well as music featured in Stanley Kubrick’s iconic 1968 sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey. New works will include James Gammon’s Overture and Paul Sanho Kim’s violin concerto, Virtual Reclamation, with the composer as soloist. Virtual Reclamation explores the human side of rapidly advancing technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence—inviting questions about our identity and role in a tech-integrated culture. The concert will also include a discussion about technology and human identity with Dr. Helen Crompton of the Research Institute for Digital Innovation and Learning and Dr. Andrew Kissel from the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.James Gammon: Overture
