From Warning Signs to Action: Preventing Targeted Violence
About this Event
This training provides an introduction to basic behavioral threat assessment, focusing on identifying risks and warning behaviors in young adults who may be on a pathway toward targeted violence. Participants will explore how online radicalization, video game influences, and artificial intelligence use can contribute to concerning behavioral patterns. The training also examines the copycat phenomenon seen in targeted attackers and how it can escalate threats. Through real-world examples and practical strategies, attendees will learn to recognize early indicators and intervene effectively. By the end, participants will be better equipped to assess and respond to potential threats in a proactive and informed manner.
Please be advised that this training covers difficult, controversial, and highly sensitive topics necessary for awareness regarding spotting warning signs of potential perpetrators of targeted violence. Materials and discussions will include difficult imagery and explicit references to violent behaviors, past mass attacks, offensive in-group ideologies and symbols, self-harm, suicidal ideation, abuse and exploitation, and severe behavioral crises involving minors. Prospective attendees are encouraged to evaluate their capacity to digest the information prior to registering and manage their own well-being throughout the session, including stepping away if needed.
