Residents and visitors to the city will soon be able to enjoy an enhanced nature experience right on their front door.
A new project is underway to transform undeveloped land along the River Severn into a thriving nature park. Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust will be turning the land into a range of new accessible habitats, including wetland, woodland, and meadows.
Working in partnership with Enovert, Severn Trent, and Gloucester City Council, with support from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the nature park will form part of a wider floodplain landscape that stretches from Slimbridge in the South, past Gloucester, and up to Tewkesbury in the north of the county. The work will improve the landscape in areas such as Hempsted Landfill and aim to balance the environmental issues created in the area by industry infrastructure, including electricity generation.
