Yin and Yang are mutually dependent. Just as the sun and moon rely on each other for the rhythm of day and night, we too need both energies to thrive. In this workshop we will explore how we can honour the gentle acceptance of Yin and the fiery drive of Yang for a well-rounded, balanced practice.
We will begin with meditation and breath awareness, and gentle somatic movements to connect to the body through the feeling of sensations. We will then start to bring a little bit more movement into the body with rounds of sun salutations and more dynamic/strengthening poses.
For the second, cooling part of the workshop we will move first through slow Moon Salutations (Chandra Namaskar): this is a sequence of grounding poses targeting the lower body which has a meditative and calming quality, preparing us for the Yin practice. Here we will hold poses for a longer period of time, to release deeply held tension and cultivate a deeper connection with the breath.
We will finish with a long relaxation to calm the body and the mind.
