From Sketch to Stitch: Intro to Pattern Making with Brandon Zayden Skipper
About this Event
What Attendees Will Be Doing Participants will pull back the curtain on fashion design and learn how to create custom sewing patterns from scratch. Led by designer Brandon Zayden Skipper, this comprehensive 2-hour course covers the absolute essentials of pattern drafting.
You will learn how to take accurate body measurements and translate them into a basic sloper set—including a bodice, skirt, and sleeve block. Brandon will guide you through the creative math of pattern manipulation, showing you how to pivot and transfer darts, introduce custom style lines, make simple garment modifications, and understand the fundamentals of pattern grading and fit adjustments for different body shapes.
What to Bring You don't need to bring anything with you! This class is structured as an interactive, demonstration-style seminar.
Want to follow along? If you want to sketch out your drafts during the class or jump right into drafting your custom blocks at home afterward, professional pattern paper and premium muslin fabric will be available for purchase right here at the Mood Fabrics showroom.
What You Can Expect Expect a highly informative and empowering 2-hour session tailored for all skill levels—no prior drafting experience required! You will break down the geometry of the human form into easy-to-understand drafting steps. You will walk away with a clear roadmap for turning your original fashion sketches into working, wearable patterns, along with the confidence to alter commercial patterns for a perfectly tailored fit.
