Join dance maestro Bettina Castano for an immersive flamenco workshop where movement and verse come together for an electrifying session of artistic expression. Feel the heartbeat of flamenco as dance and poetry come together to create a vibrant connection between body and soul. Bettina will guide participants through a workshop focused on the fundamentals of this sizzling Spanish dance form, beginning with an introduction to its basic techniques. She will then dive into one of flamenco's most expressive forms – the Bulerías, known for its lively 12-beat pattern – breaking down its structure to interpret the rhythm through dance. Beyond rhythm and flow, Bettina will unpack the lyrics of the traditional flamenco poem El Gato. Rich in emotion and storytelling, this piece is often performed with intense dramatic flair. Bettina will show how the dance and the words are deeply interconnected, allowing the dancer to channel the poem’s sentiment through posture and movement. By blending flamenco's fundamentals with the depth of El Gato, participants will not only learn the techniques but also experience the soul and passion that breathe life into flamenco. Bettina, who runs her own studio in Seville, has more than 30 performances to her name at renowned festivals and theatres, as well as dance guidebooks and study videos. Flamenco has been Bettina’s lifelong passion, and she explores its rich fusion of cultural influences into her performances, including Indian, Persian, Turkish, South American, and Moorish traditions. She has also collaborated with celebrated artists from diverse genres – such as Padma Shri Mattanoor Sankarankutty (Chenda), Shivamani (Drums), Aditi Bhagwat (Kathak), Suneeta Rao (Singing), Almudena Longares (Piano), Shubhada Varadkar (Odissi), and many more, along with filmmakers and instrumentalists like MA Nishad and Sanjay Divecha.
