From Seed to Sprout: A Seed Starting Class for Kids
About this Event
Where does food come from? Not the grocery store! It comes from a seed smaller than your fingernail.
NEW! In this hands-on class, young gardeners ages 8 to 12 will learn what a seed actually is, what it needs to wake up and grow, and how to give it the best possible start.
When you register, we'll start a seed with your name on it. By class day it will already be sprouting and waiting for you. During class, every student will also plant a second seed in a cup from a selection of edible plants. You will leave with both: the seedling we started just for you, and a freshly planted cup you started yourself. Two stages of growth, both yours to take home and keep growing.
What You'll Do:
- Learn what is inside a seed and what it needs to germinate.
- Choose an edible plant and plant their own seed in a cup to take home.
- Discover how soil, water, light, and warmth work together to grow food.
- Leave with TWO living plants and the knowledge to keep it growing.
FREE. All planting supplies provided. An adult must accompany each child for the duration of the class. Students will take home two planted seed cups, so please plan for a careful trip home!
NOTE: This event is indoors in our comfortable Classroom. To have the best experience, our space is limited to 24 children aged 8-12. You must register, and please include your child's name and age along with a cell phone number. Note that a parent or adult must accompany the child attending, and remain available during the class.
