From Renting to Owning: How-To Guide for First-Time Buyers

Are you a renter and ready to take the plunge and start the process toward homeownership? Where to begin? In this workshop you will learn about:

• Fair housing: know your rights
• Exiting a lease
• Grant programs for downpayments
• Income-restricted sales: upsides, downsides, processes, eligibility screening
• Other unconventional paths to ownership
• New rules around buyer agents
• How to choose an agent, lender, attorney: questions to ask and consumer risks

We will help you understand your rightsand the process and will set you on a path toward homeownership!

Instructor Kris Hanrahan is a REALTOR®, accredited buyers representative (ABR®) and a sales partner with the Denman Drapkin Group at Compass. Kris specializes in residential real estate in Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Hyde Park, West Roxbury, Dedham, and surrounding areas, including Ashland and Framingham. Kris is a fierce client advocate, providing support for buyers, sellers, and investors to make the real estate market accessible and as stress-free as possible.

Class is open to all and the price for everyone is $30. After completing the class, you will receive a $30 credit to use at Boston Building Resources.

Workshop Policies

Payment must be made at the time of registration through Eventbrite. If you are unable to attend and wish to cancel your registration, you may do so through Eventbrite, under the following conditions:

1. If at least one week (seven days) or more before the class, we will refund half the cost of the class.
2. All other cancellations are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Only those who are registered will be able to attend the workshop (no unregistered companions). Contact us if you need reasonable accommodations.

Photo/Video Consent and General Release

By registering for this class, I hereby authorize Boston Building Resources to use pictures of me (or my child/ward) taken in a photograph, digital image, videotape, motion picture, and/or testimonial (written words). The undersigned hereby releases Boston Building Resources, its agents or employees, as well as any and all users and exhibitors of said pictures, from any and all claims, demands, accountings, and causes for which the aforesaid videotape, testimonial, motion picture, digital image, or photograph likeness may be used pursuant to this Consent and General Release.
