From Fiber to Form: Sculptural Paper Casting

Date: June 6 & 7, 2026

Time: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture

In this two-day, foundational paper-making workshop, students transform pulp into unique cast-paper sculptures. Starting with dry abaca pulp, we dive into the process of reconstituting, blending, dying and casting sheets with a traditional mold and deckle. Abaca paper is characterized by long fibers with impressive wet strength, making it ideal for manipulation. Students mold wet sheets onto objects at home, around the studio, or in the environment. This method of papermaking and casting demonstrates a DIY way of adapting the traditional craft to a personal studio setting.

This workshop takes place on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th from 10 AM - 3 PM.

All materials will be provided.

For ages 16 and older. Those under age 16 may attend accompanied by an adult.

About the Instructor:

(She/Her) – Carbondale, CO

Leah Aegerter is a sculptor working with a combination of digital fabrication techniques and traditional processes in paper and wood to investigate her relationship to geology and deep time. She lives and works in Carbondale, CO, and spends much of her free time exploring the mountains and deserts of the American West on foot and raft. Leah received a BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017. In 2022 she was named an Aspen Art Museum Artist Fellow. She has participated in residencies at Grand Canyon National Park and Haystack Mountain School of Craft, among others, and teaches often at nonprofits in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley such as Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
