About this Event
From Dublin to NYC: Macdara Yeates in Concert
In the 1800’s the Great Hunger drove a wave of Irish immigrants through Ellis Island and into New York City, bringing along their music. With “a bracing, baleful, baritone that sounds as if it's been dug from the deepest, most fragrant turf” (Songlines), Dublin balladeer Macdara Yeats follows their path, presenting Irish songs of emigration, love, humour, local narratives, and revolution along with rich insights on the history of the songs and their collection. Join the Folk Music Society of New York as we pay tribute to the generations of singers who carried these songs from Ireland to America.
This event forms part of Carnegie Hall's United in Sound: America at 250 festival.
