Custumer discovery and validation are two fundamental processes for entrepreneurs at the beginning of their venture journey. Both processes are iterative and focus on learning from customers to refine the business idea.

  1. Customer Discovery focuses on identifying potential customers and understanding their needs and problems. It involves getting out of the building and engaging directly with potential customers. This phase aims to test the assumptions about the problem entrepreneurs are solving and the customer segments they are targeting. The tool used is this phase is the Business Model Canvas.
  2. Customer Validation is the next step after customer discovery. In this phase, entrepreneurs test whether their proposed solution meets the identified needs of customers. It involves getting early customers to validate that they are willing to pay for the solution. This phase seeks to prove that the business model is scalable, laying the foundation for a repeatable and profitable sales process. The tool used is this phase is the Sales Roadmap.
