About this Event
Efficient data management is important for the advancement of research. It is consistently receiving attention from various stakeholders, including research funders, research performing organisations, and the researchers themselves. The attention given to data management planning is in part due to efforts to encourage researchers to practice Open Research and incorporate the principles of FAIR. Data management plans are key parts of the research process, aiding researchers with planning for the tools and resources needed to store, analyse, and manage the many types and size of data that will be collected and/or created. Research support staff play a vital role in the development of data management plans and engaging with researchers early in the data process can aid in establishing good practice throughout the research process.
The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is hosting training, “From Data to Discovery: Supporting Data Management Plans using DMPonline.” This interactive training is geared toward research support staff. The training will present participants with the key components of data management plans (DMPs) considering best practices to support researchers at each stage of development. Additionally, the concept of the FAIR principles will be discussed and its relationship to the DMP, particularly around interoperability. Further, the DCC team will introduce the core functionality of DMPonline, DCC’s web-based tool that supports researchers to develop DMPs. There will be a hands-on session that will show how to use the tool, detail the tools key features, and show how participants can use it to support researchers.
