Orange County United Way's Women United and the UC Irvine School of Social Sciences Women of the Dean's Leadership Society invite you to a fireside chat exploring homelessness in Orange County through data, research, and community action.

This conversation will bring together local leaders and experts in the field, including:

• Bill Maurer, Professor of Anthropology & Law, Dean of Social Sciences, UC Irvine
• Becks Heyhoe-Khalil, Executive Director, United to End Homelessness, Orange County United Way
• Rachel E. Goldberg, Associate Professor of Sociology, UC Irvine

Susan B. Parks, President and CEO, Orange County United Way, will moderate the discussion.

Together, we will look back at the collaborative 2017 study—Homelessness in Orange County: The Costs to Our Community—which helped inform local approaches to homelessness and contributed to the launch of United to End Homelessness, a key initiative of Orange County United Way that advances housing-focused solutions through collaboration, advocacy, and strategic programming.

Orange County United Way and UC Irvine are partnering on a new homelessness cost analysis that will provide current insight into what is working, where gaps remain, and how resources can be invested most effectively. This discussion will explore why updated data matters now and how research can help guide the next phase of policy, funding, advocacy, and community action.

Guests will also learn about The Person in Front of You, a community awareness movement that encourages Orange County residents to see the people and stories behind homelessness and consider their role in supporting lasting housing solutions.
