About this Event
From Brooklyn to Palestine: Join us for a beautiful evening of art, conversation, and community at Cafe Barzakh! Hosted by the Shut It Down Coalition, in partnership with Cinemóvil and the Palestinian Youth Movement, all proceeds from this event will go to Middle Eastern Children's Alliance (MECA), one of the last groups providing critically needed on the ground support to families in Gaza.
Event details:
Doors will open at 5:00pm, with film screenings beginning at 6pm in the backyard, including: Children of Shatila (56 minutes), War Children (10 minutes), and Far Away from Home (11 minutes). All three films spotlight the experiences of child refugees, speaking to the importance of organizations like MECA, and celebrating the ongoing strength of Palestinian resistance.
After the screenings, stick around for an engaging panel discussion, followed by a reception where you’ll have the chance to enter our art raffle and win unique prizes, from one of a kind paintings to vinyl bundles to flash tattoos!
Come out to connect, learn, celebrate, and support this important cause. We can’t wait to see you!
Please note: tickets are free, but donations are highly encouraged. Support our MECA fundraiser here!

About MECA:
The Middle Eastern Children's Alliance is a network of grassroots community organizations throughout Gaza, working together to reach displaced families staying with friends, relatives, neighbors, and in informal shelters such as community centers and cafes. To date, MECA has delivered 263,699 parcels, each with enough food to feed a family for 2-3 weeks, 33,560 hygiene kits, and 655,296 meals in partnership with World Central Kitchen. To support this essential work, the Palestinian Youth Movement has committed to raising $1 million through its international fundraising campaign, The People Stand with Gaza. With your help, we can help PYM meet this goal and ensure MECA is able to keep doing this critical on the ground support.
