About this Event

Join the Embassy of the Czech Republic for a special evening of music featuring acclaimed Czech pianist Mikuláš Pokorný and guitarist Josef Hanulík, distinguished graduates of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno, on June 23, 2026, at 6 pm.

Presented in honor of America at 250, this unique concert celebrates the enduring cultural connections between the Czech Republic and the United States through an engaging program of jazz, swing, folk-inspired melodies, and original compositions. The evening will also showcase the artistry of two renowned Czech musical traditions through the rich sound of Petrof pianos and Furch guitars, internationally recognized symbols of Czech craftsmanship and innovation.

About the Artists

Mikuláš Pokorný is a Czech pianist, composer, and educator. After studies in Prague, Brno, and Lisbon, he established himself as a sought-after performer on the Czech music scene, collaborating with artists including Laco Deczi & Celula New York, Libor Šmoldas Quartet, Jan Smigmator, Markéta Foukalová, and Lenka Nová. Drawing inspiration from New Orleans jazz, swing, bebop, and Brazilian folk music, he combines original compositions with carefully selected standards to create a vibrant and engaging musical experience.

Josef Hanulík is a Czech guitarist, singer, and composer whose work draws inspiration from jazz, American folk, and bluegrass traditions. A graduate of the Jazz Performance program at JAMU, he continued his studies at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, the Netherlands. Through original compositions and imaginative interpretations of traditional repertoire, Hanulík creates a distinctive musical style that bridges Central European and American influences.
