About this Event
Many parents feel overwhelmed when their child’s emotions spill out as hitting, shouting, or meltdowns. It can be exhausting, worrying, and hard to know how to respond.
This 5-week workshop helps you make sense of what sits beneath these behaviours and offers practical, therapeutically informed ways to support your child-and yourself.
You’ll join a supportive space to reflect, learn, and share experiences with other parents and carers.
Arrive from 9:00 | Sessions 9:15–10:15
Each session is supportive, practical, and focused on helping you understand your child’s behaviour and respond with confidence.
Important: This workshop offers early-stage guidance for parents. It is not therapy or crisis support.
9:00–9:15 – Arrive, make drinks, settle in
9:15–9:25 – Welcome and what we’ll focus on today
9:25–9:45 – Simple ideas about children’s emotions, behaviour, and regulation
9:45–10:00 – Talking things through using real-life parent experiences and questions
10:00–10:15 – Practical take-home ideas to try during the week
At the end of the 5 weeks, parents will receive a free personalised report summarising what has been covered across the sessions.
This report will include practical guidance tailored to your child’s needs and your family situation, giving you a clear reference to support everyday parenting and help you take confident next steps.
Weekly Focus
Week 1: Why Is My Child So Angry?
If your child’s behaviour feels confusing or intense, this session helps make sense of what might be underneath it. We explore behaviour as communication and what anger might be trying to tell us.
We’ll cover:
How behaviour communicates unmet needs
What might sit underneath anger and outbursts
Common triggers for big reactions
Shifting how we interpret behaviour
Week 2: Understanding the Nervous System
This session introduces how children’s nervous systems respond to stress, overwhelm, and perceived threat, helping explain why reactions can feel so big and fast.
We’ll cover:
Why some children react quickly and intensely
Fight, flight, freeze, and overwhelm responses
How stress impacts behaviour
How understanding this changes how we respond
Week 3: Staying Regulated as a Parent
Supporting a child with big emotions can feel exhausting. This session focuses on noticing our own reactions and learning ways to stay calm and grounded.
We’ll cover:
Recognising your own stress responses
Why regulation starts with the adult
Simple ways to stay calm in difficult moments
Reducing escalation at home
Week 4: Co-Regulation and Connection
Children learn to regulate through safe relationships. This session focuses on connection, helping children feel understood and supported.
We’ll cover:
What co-regulation looks like in real life
Connection before correction
Helping your child feel safe and heard
Strengthening your relationship
Week 5: Practical Strategies for Everyday Life
In the final session we bring everything together and focus on practical tools you can use at home.
We’ll cover:
Responding to hitting, shouting, and meltdowns
Supporting anxiety and overwhelm
