Frogs are fascinating creatures. They look good, sound good, and some even say they taste good! Moreover, they serve as excellent indicators of waterway and wetland health because they are highly susceptible to environmental changes. Therefore, monitoring frog populations is crucial for tracking waterway health over time. This is where Anke Maria, the crazy frog lady, comes in. As coordinator of the ACT FrogWatch Program, she has been training volunteers in the art of frog surveys since 2011. She is a strong advocate for citizen science, stewardship, and, above all, frogs.
In her presentation Anke Maria will focus on the weird and wonderful world of frogs, tune your ears to local frog calls, and make a case for more urban frog habitats! Join a survey at a local ANU site afterwards, if you dare (wear sturdy shoes, warm clothes and your favourite torch).
Anke Maria’s talk will be held in the Slatyer Seminar Room, on the first floor of the R N Robertson Building, 46 Sullivans Creek Road at the ANU. Head up the stepped ramp on the right as you enter the building. The Slatyer room will be on your left at the front of the building. Light refreshments will be served from 7pm with the talk to start at 7.30pm. Please bring a keep cup or mug for coffee or tea. After the talk you can head out onto the ANU campus with Anke Maria for a frog survey.
Non (and new!) members welcome!
