Friends of the Glynn Vivian Talk with Jessie Edwards-Thomas
Saturday 21 February 2026
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
In this talk, Jessie will discuss her most recent body of work Out of Sight & Out of Mind, reflecting not only on the systemic issues of motherhood and visibility, but her own personal experiences of becoming a mother in recent years.
In response to Linder’s use of the collage, the scalpel and the fragmented, Jessie will explore the mother-bricoleur position. Both artists and mothers draw from the bits and pieces that inhabit our world to make sense of our world, to speak of our world.
Out of Sight & Out of Mind, layers and dissects the archives, the forgotten stories of mothers gone by and takes a scalpel to our comforting lullabies; to take note of where our sense of care and love may take us tomorrow.
Free. Booking essential

Jessie Edwards-Thomas
Jessie Edwards-Thomas is a visual artist and Senior Lecturer in Photography at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Her practice explores the individual’s relationship to society, with recurring themes of belonging, care, alienation, and power.
In recent years, Jessie has focused on interrogating the role of motherhood within capitalist systems. In 2024, she was commissioned by Ffotogallery, Cardiff, to develop this research, culminating in a solo exhibition at Chapel Cemetery. She is currently studying under a fully funded PhD at UWE to further investigate this area of her practice.
Her work is deeply rooted in community engagement. She has led projects addressing housing, mental health, and social care in contemporary Britain, including a 2021 commission with Bristol Photo Festival, Arnolfini, and Golden Key, which was exhibited at the Arnolfini. She has also partnered with organisations such as Falmouth University, the Royal West of England Academy, and InBetweenTime on photographic outreach and socially engaged art programmes.
Her work has been exhibited across the UK, including at the Arnolfini, Ffotogallery, Oriel Mostyn, Peckham24, Bristol Photo Festival, FORMAT Festival, and the Royal Academy.

Sgwrs Cyfeillion y Glynn Vivian â Jessie Edwards-Thomas
Dydd Sadwrn 21 Chwefror 2026
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Yn y sgwrs hon, bydd Jessie yn trafod ei gwaith diweddaraf, Out of Sight & Out of Mind, gan fyfyrio ar faterion systemig mamolaeth ac amlygrwydd a’i phrofiadau personol ei hun o ddod yn fam yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf.
Mewn ymateb i ddefnydd Linder o collage, llafn a delweddau darniog, bydd Jessie yn archwilio rôl y fam. Mae artistiaid a mamau fel ei gilydd yn tynnu o’r hyn sy’n digwydd yn ein byd i wneud synnwyr o’n byd ac i siarad am ein byd.
Mae Out of Sight & Out of Mind yn haenu ac yn dadansoddi’r archifau, straeon anghofiedig mamau ac yn dadansoddi ein hwiangerddi swynol er mwyn nodi ble y gallai ein synnwyr o ofal a chariad fynd â ni yn y dyfodol.
Am ddim
