About this Event

“Establishing a Connection with the Past: Contemporary Students and Their ‘Need to Know’”

Dr. Andrea Trocha Van Nort

Dr. Andrea Trocha-Van Nort earned a BA from the University of Oklahoma and a second BA, an MA, and her PhD in France at the Université Blaise Pascal, Clermont II. She lived in France and taught English in private schools, two private universities, and four different public universities over fifteen years. She relocated to the United States in 2007 to accept a position in USAFA’s Department of English and Fine Arts where she currently holds the rank of full professor.
Dr. Van Nort’s research centers on Shakespeare and European Renaissance studies, although her scholarly interests range from classical literature to war literature. She has most recently published on Shakespeare’s Lucretian analogies for Appositions and has a monograph underway on the art of perspective and framing in Shakespeare and Caravaggio. Her work on war poets Robert Graves and Brian Turner has appeared most recently in Albeit and The Rocky Mountain Review, respectively. In 2015, she received the William H. Heiser Award as USAFA’s Outstanding Senior Faculty Educator in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

She has recently brought her freshman cadets in contact with many Clark Special Collections primary sources involving POWs and their unforgettable stories. Those cadets have gained new insight in studying the will and determination of those service members who suffered unimaginable deprivations for their country and supported one another along the way.
