A fine red brick Tudor Manor house built by Thomas Gresham and
remodelled inside and out for the upwardly mobile Child family in the 18th century by John Adam.
Stunning Georgian interiors include the austere Entrance Hall of 1767 and the Tapestry Room hung with crimson coloured Boucher medallion tapestries specially commissioned from the Gobelin factory in Paris and lovingly tended over the years by the owners and family retainers.
Clocking in at 130 feet, the ‘Long Gallery’ is aptly named and is now hung with an assemblage of 17th and 18th century Venetian paintings.
The house is set in 357 acres of parkland and gardens with lakes and featuring wide variety of oak tree species.
We will take a leisurely pause in the historic Tudor courtyard which houses a welcoming café. There is also a delightful shop stocked with gifts, homeware, plants—and even a second-hand bookshop, perfect for finding your next good read.
