Swedish Swing Society invites you to a Lindy Hop social dance evening with a switch-dancing theme!This is the dance evening both for those who have never danced the other role and are curious about how it works, and for those who are already experienced switch dancers.
The evening begins with a taster class in “Basic steps in the other role” with our dance teachers Sofia and Andrea, so that you’ll feel ready to head out onto the dance floor regardless of your previous experience. After that, the evening continues as usual with dancing, fika, and wonderful company!
Since the theme is switch dancing, there are no expectations about which role a particular person wants to dance. Before each dance, we therefore ask something like, “Which role are you dancing?”, “Do you want to lead, follow, or switch?” or “I’d like to try following for a little while, but I’ll probably want to lead for most of the song, is that okay with you?” depending on what you feel like doing. As usual, it is perfectly fine to say, “No, thank you!” or “No, I’d prefer to lead the next dance, so you’ll have to ask someone else.” There is no right or wrong! Naturally, this also means there is no requirement to switch roles during a dance, or not to dance your “usual” role.
The purpose of the evening is to create a safe environment where you are free to try something new without expectations regarding either dance role or experience level.
Since switch dancing has its roots in queer culture, our DJs will broaden our musical horizons during the evening by primarily playing music by queer and/or female musicians.

*Members of Swedish Swing Society: 50 SEK incl. coffee and cookies
*Non-members: 100 SEK incl. coffee and cookies
We seriously prefer swish. (Our bank don't take cash. No, we are not kidding.)
NOTE: Bring a padlock for the safes in the dance hall, and a water bottle!

We are a non-profit organisation run by democratic principles by our members. You can sign up for membership at our webpage. Membership gives you possibility to vote at our annual meeting, possibility to practice for free on Sundays, serious discounts at our courses, social dance evenings and other events.
