brown, burnt orange, yellow ochre and avocado green.
Richard Powers teaches all-levels classes from 7 to 9 pm, with Tracey. Richard is our dance music DJ from 9pm to midnight.
Real Seventies Disco! This isn't today's Hustle. 1970s Disco had the Latin Hustle, New York Hustle, Rope Hustle and Continental Hustle, none of which were today's Hustle. The wild ride of seventies Disco also brought in hundreds of new swing figures, most famously the dips and drops. Learn some of them here. You can also read Richard's Web pages on Disco here, but actually dancing it, to great 70s music, is much more fun.
7:15pm - All Levels class: 1970s San Francisco style Disco Hustle. This is the easier style of Hustle, also known as Rope Hustle. Richard's past FNW disco classes (the last one was six years ago) were attended by San Franciscans who had danced disco in the 70s, and all of them agreed that this was the style that everyone in the City did. This class will finish with a disco line dance.
8pm - 1970s Latin and New York Hustle. It's the battle of east Coast versus West Coast disco! These were the mainstream seventies disco styles, both of them six-count hustles, as seen in Saturday Night Fever. This class will also finish with a disco line dance. Beginners will be able to pick these up too, IF they come to the beginning of the 7:15pm class.
These are ALL-LEVELS CLASSES, no previous experience required.
Richard is actually a primary source on this material, having worked as a media and club designer for a chain of discos (New York, Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis and Houston) in the seventies, from before Saturday Night Fever launched the disco fad until after it all subsided, so he had a chance to catch all of the phases of the disco craze. In addition, Richard has reconstructed the dances from 102 disco dance books.
Both Richard and Tracey will wear 70s attire. Will you?
9pm - 70s Dance Party!
Waltz, swing, polka, cha cha, cross-step waltz, BNP, salsa, Tokyo Polka, Lindy, tango, Romany Polka, hustle and more!
