In 2025, Tacoma adopted a goal to become a “15-minute city” where people can access all of their daily necessities without needing to drive. But how does a city actually meet that goal and why do we have so much ground to make up? Join us for a panel exploring the history of why Tacoma developed the way it did and how we can make our community more connected. This free Friday Forum panel event will be held on January 30th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in person at the University of Washington Tacoma in Milgard Hall Room 110, and virtually on Zoom Webinar. Featuring panelists Robb Krehbiel (Tacoma Planning Commission), Rubén Casas (University of Washington Tacoma), and Alyssa Torrez (Pierce County). Moderated by Tanisha Jumper (Tacoma Public Schools).

Tacoma On the Go’s Friday Forums bring together local leaders, experts, and the community to talk about transportation issues facing Tacoma and our region. In the 2026 Friday Forums series, we’re exploring different ways we can increase connection in our communities through discussions on policy, mobility, and how local leaders can work together across jurisdictions.
