Join us for a special day trip to experience the extraordinary exhibition Frida: Beyond the Myth at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA)—one of only two venues nationwide showcasing this captivating collection of works by the legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

About the Exhibition: Explore more than 60 of Frida Kahlo’s most powerful and rarely seen works—from her vivid self-portraits and intimate still lifes to imaginative compositions that reveal her enduring strength, resilience, and vulnerability. Delve into Kahlo’s compelling personal narrative through art that addresses profound life experiences, Mexican pride, gender identity, and physical adversity. Accompanying the paintings are rarely exhibited photographs taken by renowned photographers like Lola Álvarez Bravo, Imogen Cunningham, Julien Levy, Dora Maar, and Nickolas Muray, offering an intimate look at Kahlo’s complex life.

Your Tour Leader – Marsha Staiger:This exclusive guided tour will be led by celebrated Art League painter and educator Marsha Staiger. With over 30 years as a professional artist and instructor, Marsha brings deep insight into Kahlo’s technique, symbolism, and use of color. As a skilled colorist and an educator, Marsha will illuminate Kahlo’s painting process, exploring the intuitive and symbolic aspects of her groundbreaking work. Her rich experience as both a painter and teacher ensures an engaging and enriching experience for all participants, offering a painter’s nuanced perspective on Kahlo’s masterpieces.

"Artists are given a tightrope to negotiate: be aware of the past and go towards the future. By practicing techniques that will aid your endeavor, you will no longer need to think but invite the memory from your diligence." – Marsha Staiger
