About this Event
Tá Reilig Sceach na mBráthar ar cheann de na reiligí Críostaí is sine i mBéal Feirste, ag dul siar go dtí tús an 13ú haois. Suite ar Bhóthar Shrúthan Mhilis, bhí sé mar phríomhreilig Chaitliceach sa chathair. Tá go leor leac uaighe agus séadchomharthaí stairiúla sa reilig, rud a léiríonn oidhreacht shaibhir shóisialta, pholaitiúil agus reiligiúnach Bhéal Feirste. Is í láthair adhlactha d’íospartaigh eipidéimí an cholera agus daoine suntasacha áitiúla.
Friars Bush Cemetery is one of Belfast’s oldest burial grounds, dating back to the early 13th century. Located on Stranmillis Road, it served as the main Catholic burial ground in the area. The graveyard contains many historic headstones and monuments, reflecting Belfast’s rich social, political and religious heritage. It is the final resting place of victims of cholera epidemics and notable local figures dating back to the 18th century.
