Handbuilding is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, but just using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. The most common handbuilding techniques are pinch pottery, coil building, and slab building.This class has two prices:
$175 (15 lbs of clay plus outside practice time during our business hour Thur.-Mon.)
$135 (9 lbs of clay class time only)Extra clay is $5 per pound if you end up needing more.
The price included electric kiln firings, tools and access to studio glazes.
Anyone aged 14 and over is welcome to join but students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class.
In this 3-week course, we will explore different techniques each week.
Week 1:
Introduction to ceramic processes and learning the pinch pot technique.
Week 2:
Introduction to the coiling technique, the ideal method to create larger objects
Week 3:
learning the slab building technique, Students will learn how to prepare their clay, roll it into a slab, and attach the edges to build their desired shape
*Students will need to come back to glaze their own piece to give it a colorful and glossy surface. Glazing is already included in the price of this workshop, you will get an email notification to schedule your glazing date once we complete a bisque firing for your piece.
