UTC-05:00Location
North Park Phase 1: Freshkills Park | Staten Island, NY
About this Event
Join the Freshkills Park Alliance and the NYC Urban Park Rangers, and the Amateur Astronomers Association for an evening of viewing the New York City night sky
February 1 - Winter is a prime season for stargazing. The cold air clears the night sky of clouds and creates ideal conditions for seeing the stars, planets, and other celestial highlights. Join the Urban Park Rangers and Freshkills Park educators to gaze at the night sky through a telescope and learn about February's Full Moon which is referred to as the "Snow Moon"
Location: We will meet across from the composting comfort stations (restrooms) in North Park Phase 1. Gates to North Park Phase 1 are located at 350 Wild Ave (parking lot entrance) and at Schmul Park (behind the baseball field). From here, we will gather together to view the night sky. Directions: https://freshkillspark.org/design-construction/north-park-phase-1
Accessibility: We will be walking approximately 1-mile on a gravel trail, which includes elevation and can be uneven at times. If you have any accessibility needs, please let us know in advance so we can best accommodate you.
Plan Ahead: Be “tick aware” and wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and insect repellant. Also wear a hat and bring water and a snack.
