Want to try something new, fun and social? Come along on Saturday, 4th April, 5-8:30 pm for an evening of bal-folk dancing at the Sullivan Hall in White Gum Valley. We teach all the dances on the spot, so no prior experience is necessary. Please bring a plate of finger food to share. Children are welcome to join in! Due to the bal-folk Easter bunnies that will be frolicking around that weekend, there will be an easter egg hunt during the break. Children and adults are equally encouraged to participate in the hunt!
This event is entirely volunteer-run – the $15 entry fee (under 16s free) goes towards making other events like this possible.
Big thank you to Perth International Dance for helping make this event possible!
What is Bal-folk dancing, you ask? It is a very valid question. Bal-folk comes from France (literally means “folk-ball”) and is essentially a French version of an Australian bush dance. A wide variety of European dances (especially French) are enjoyed at these events: line dances, circle dances, change-partner dances, couples dances, and occasionally some solo dances. The main goal of Bal-folk dancing is to get people together to have fun, connect with other people and find community through dance. Bal-folk has slowly been spreading from France to many other countries, and we are very excited that it has now made it to Perth and is thriving!
