For years, Frente Cumbiero has served as the torchbearer of a new wave of experimental exploration in the diverse modern-day cumbia canvas. Led by Mario Galeano Toro, a Colombian native and accomplished veteran of Bogotá’s rich music scene, the group first connected with listeners outside of South America via their head-exploding 2010 debut on Names You Can Trust. “Pitchito” would become a cult favourite, a catalyst for the Brooklyn-based label, and soon after a bonafide rarity. Those beginnings of Frente Cumbiero focused on an honorary recognition of the massive musical impact that the many formations of cumbia have had over the decades within Colombia. Subgenres such as gaita, porro, vallenato, and caracolito, to name just a handful, have all played their part within the evolution of the country’s tropical music lineage. That deep-digging determination coupled with a truly unique and talented musicianship has informed Frente’s music, some of the most forward-thinking and reverential examples of the current tropical scene. It has led to some incredible opportunities and collaborations in Europe, Asia and the States, including genre-defying recordings with London’s Mad Professor and Japan’s Minyo Crusaders.

Spacehall Sound Machine is a psychedelic dance band based in San Diego, CA, established in October 2022. The six piece instrumental ensemble is the brainchild of Matt Bozzone, a drummer who has spent the past 10+ years touring the U.S. with a variety of artists in the global groove scene, including Nigerian afrobeat masters Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 (Fela Kuti’s former band). In 2022, Bozzone and bandmate Mitchum Yacoub played percussion for Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 on six U.S. tour dates, including a performance at Desert Daze. Shortly after that, Spacehall was formed. Their sound is inspired by explosive rhythms from West Africa & Latin America, Jamaican dub, driving post-punk basslines, and haunting melodies from the Middle East. They create hypnotic grooves designed to move bodies on the dance floor and take adventurous minds on a journey. In less than one year from the band’s conception, Spacehall has performed at festivals throughout California, such as Lighting In A Bottle and Same Same But Different, and have shared the stage with international artists such as Vieux Farka Toure and My Baby.

Bachata Surf presents unique Afro-Caribbean congas and percussion hybrid with vintage California surf and spaghetti western guitars, featuring sultry female and dark male vocals. In 2016, Bachata Surf was formed by members of San Diego's legendary surf punk group, the Embalmers. Initial creators of Bachata Surf, Gordo (Embalmers’ front man & guitarist) and Marek (Embalmers’ drummer), an immigrant from Caracas, Venezuela, were quickly followed by Frank (Embalmers’ bass player), Oscar (percussion), another immigrant from Caracas, Venezuela, Sabina (vocals), a Florida-born native raised in Caracas, Venezuela, and Becky (vocals), a Rancho Peñasquitos local.
