Designed for those with experience in French polishing or who have completed our introductory course, this session focuses on refining your technique and achieving a true mirror-like finish.
With guidance from this highly experienced duo, you’ll explore traditional methods passed down through generations of master craftsmen - techniques rarely used in modern finishing today.
What You Will Learn:
Advanced Surface Preparation Build up a strong foundation with improved bodying-up techniques and specialised grain filling.
Creating a Level Finish Learn how to manage wood porosity and properly fill pores for a smooth, even surface.
Refined Padding Techniques Develop control over lubrication, oil selection, and spiriting off for a flawless result.
Colour Matching Understand professional approaches to tinting, toning, and achieving an accurate finish.
Finishing Touches Explore traditional burnishing and waxing techniques to complete your piece.
Acceptable Furniture for the Class
To get the most from the workshop, please bring a small antique item. Suggested pieces include:
-Antique dining chair or stool
-Small antique side table or locker
-Antique jewellery box
-Antique writing slope
Important Notes
No Modern Furniture: This workshop is focused exclusively on antique pieces.
Limited Storage: All furniture worked on during the workshop must be taken home at the end of the session, as storage facilities are not available.
Dress Code: Please wear old clothes! French polishing can be a messy process.
