About this Event
Welcome to French Baroque: A St. Augustine Series Concert!
Join us at St. Augustine’s Church, Vancouver, on November 22, 2025, at 7:00 PM (Pacific Time) for an unforgettable evening of French Baroque music.
Central to the program is Jean-Baptiste Montéclair’s dramatic cantata La mort de Didon, which brings to life the tragic final moments of Dido, Queen of Carthage. Abandoned by Aeneas after their brief but passionate union, Dido faces the anguish of betrayal and the collapse of her once-proud spirit. Montéclair’s music captures her emotional descent — from fury and despair to her final, dignified acceptance of fate — in vivid, expressive detail.
Performed by a soprano soloist and ensemble on period instruments, this concert immerses listeners in the elegance, intensity, and emotional richness of the French Baroque, offering a moving glimpse into a queen’s heart and the timeless power of music to tell her story.
