About this Event
In this investigative class, we will explore nontraditional pate de verre method called “freeze and fuse” and its applicaton in the hot shop. By making silicone moulds of low relief patterns and designs and using them to make freeze and fuse powder wafers, students will learn new methods of mark making in the hot studio. Together, we will explore different applications of the freeze and fused forms in the hot shop including encasing, rolling up, and surface placement. This intensive course is made for students with introductory glass experience who want to incorporate kiln form techniques into their hotshop practice.
What to Expect:
Learning Objectives
1. To learn how to use pourable silicone to make moulds for freeze and fuse.
2. To gain knowledge on the freeze and fuse process and how to create kiln schedules for firing.
3. To learn the anatomy of the bubble as it applies to picking up freeze and fuse parts.
4. To incorporate these non traditional pate de verre additions with traditional glass forming techniques.
