About this Event
The African American Policy Forum invites you to participate in our inaugural Freedom to Play Wellness Day!
Come out and enjoy a day of joy, wellness, community, and play- something we so often don't allow ourselves to do. We will be spending our times playing games, moving our bodies, singing, dancing and making music. What better way to start of your Saturday?
Black women have long been at the nexus of interlocking systemic injustices leaving us both physically and spiritually overworked, overburdened, and overwhelmed. This ever-present resistance to Black women’s joy is especially poignant in light of the profound grief that permeates Black women's lived experiences. Through our #SayHerName campaign, we have illuminated the devastating reality that Black women's deaths at the hands of police and systemic violence often go unnoticed and unnamed. In the face of such relentless loss—from Miriam Carey to Breonna Taylor to the countless others whose names we continue to uplift in rememberance—play emerges as a crucial tool for cushioning grief and creating space for healing amidst trauma.
