Freedom Summer 2.0 - Houston
About this Event
Freedom Summer 2.0 is a statewide homecoming — a movement to demonstrate the collective power of democracy through Black liberation and prophetic action. We're building on the legacy of the original Freedom Summer of 1964, when everyday people organized across the South to fight for voting rights and dignity. That work isn't finished, and we're picking it back up. Led by the Black Faith Coalition, we're bringing people together this summer across three major Texas cities — Houston, Austin, and Dallas — to learn, organize, and build lasting power for our communities.
This isn't just an event. It's a weekend experience designed to meet you where you are and equip you for what's next.
Locations
Friday, July 24 — Moca Lounge, 4212 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77004 | 5:00–10:00 PM
Saturday, July 25 — Texas Southern University (TSU) | 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Friday Night — The Art of Joy
We start with culture. Each Friday evening features a live music experience rooted in R&B, Soul, and Hip Hop — with a DJ set, live performances, and giveaways. If you've been looking for your people, this is where you find them.
Saturday — Educate, Empower, and Train
We get to work. Saturday is a full-day leadership training that equips faith leaders, community organizers, and everyday people with the tools to make real change. We cover theological grounding for justice, public policy, organizing for collective power, advocacy strategies, media and messaging, and emergency preparedness. You'll leave with a framework, a community, and a next step.
The series kicks off right here in Houston on July 24–25. Whether you're new to organizing or have been in the work for years, this is where you come to learn, grow, and plug in. There is space for you here.
