Hezekiah Watkins, the youngest of the Freedom Riders, will share his powerful story of courage and civil rights advocacy. At just 13 years old Watkins was arrested and sent to Mississippi's notorious Parchman State Penitentiary.Mistaken for a Freedom Rider, he was placed on death row for several days before being released. This experience didn't silence him; instead, it sparked a lifelong commitment to justice. He went on to be arrested more than 100 times in his pursuit of equality. His story is an incredible bridge between the history books and the personal power students have to influence their communities
today.
