FREEDOM BRAIDERS PRESENTS: Braiding Beyond Bars

Join Freedom Braiders for a film screening & conversation about how women learn braiding in J*il and build new opportunities after release.
About this Event

What can a braid hold? A tradition passed down. A moment of trust. A skill a woman can carry home.

Join Freedom Braiders for Braiding Beyond Bars, a documentary screening and community conversation about what it means to learn a craft, build confidence, and imagine a future beyond incarceration.

Freedom Braiders brings hands-on braiding instruction into county jails. The documentary takes you inside that work and invites you to consider what becomes possible when women have space to learn, connect, and create. Braiding is a skill women can build on after release, and the conversation will explore what it takes for our communities to help turn that skill into opportunity.

What to expect

• A screening of Braiding Beyond Bars
• A panel discussion and community conversation about braiding, healing, and reentry
• A live braiding showcase and local vendors
• An opportunity to support Freedom Braiders and help bring this work to more women
