FREE walk / talk - Dundee`s last WW1 (Dudhope) Drill Hall. Stop DEMOLITION

Meet outside the Abertay Library on Bell Street, near the Sheriff Courts.

Dudhope Drill Hall is the last surviving example of a World War One Drill Hall. There were other military Drill Halls in Victoria Road, Bell Street and Taylor`s Lane - all gone. The current owner wants to demolish it and replace it with flats and workshops. The building is situated in the Blackness Conservation Area, which the city seeks to rejuvenate. Surely this should lead by its historic buildings being repurposed and reused for homes, galleries, artisan workshops and museums. There is scope to provide greenspace and leisure , given careful redevelopment.

Please come on this complimentary walk and hopefully attend the upcoming public consultation at Hampton by Hilton, at Westport/ Argyllgait . This is on 15 February 2023. It runs from 4- 8 pm and you just drop in and walk round. Here you can make your views known and lodge your objections should you wish to preserve or repurpose the buildings substantially.

The HQ of 2 nd Highland Royal Field Artillery and 3 rd Highland Field Ambulance , part of the 51st Highland Division, during World War one. The famed 4 th Black Watch (Dundee`s Own ) are also noted as training there.

Through this (still existing ) archway would clatter horses, horse drawn ambulances and field guns- at first in training , then off to France. For some, that would be for the last time.
