Free Teacher Workshop: Creative Tinkering in the Classroom
Schedule
Tue Oct 15 2024 at 05:00 pm to 07:00 pm
UTC-07:00Location
SCRAP | San Francisco, CA
About this Event
Creative thinking is an invaluable skill that results from tinkering with loose parts and open-ended materials. In this workshop we will engage with loose parts, and experience for ourselves the possibilities they afford. Those include collaboration, innovation, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation, natural curiosity, amongst many others! Additionally, because there are no direct instructions to follow, no "right or wrong," creative tinkering is low-risk and allows children to engage in higher-level thinking with the least amount of pressure. Participants in this workshop can expect to tinker, play and even create something of their own. They will also learn ways to introduce loose parts into their classrooms and how to utilize them to teach any areas of curriculum. After a brief welcome and introduction, participants will rotate through the multiple stations. Before moving on to their next station participants will engage in brief, small-group reflections with their tablemates.
Our Free Teacher Workshops qualify as Prop G Hours!

About Avril
I am a long-time, early childhood educator, and mentor teacher. I bring my passion for open ended materials and loose parts into every classroom I teach in and love supporting teachers to do the same! I enjoy reflecting with educators and encouraging them to think deeply about their work. I often use open-ended materials to do that too! In addition to working with young children and teachers, I enjoy experimenting with the art of collage and assemblage. In my spare time you may find me out and about, treasure hunting for more materials to add to my collection.
