About this Event

Sessions are 90 minutes and combine discussion, live storytelling & a practical activity. Each month we tackle a different subject, skill or theme. See below for a list!

Your host is "London's resident storyteller" Vanessa Woolf.

Themes for 2026

21 Jan - Finding the Personal within the Myth. (This month's workshop and discussion will feature performed extracts from Polis Loizou's "Island of Love" a show inspired by Greek Mythology and the figure of Aphrodite. )

18 Feb - Heard It Before! (What techniques can we use to bring fresh life into very familiar or well-known stories?)

18 March - 'Celebrating Cultures', special guest Wendy Shearer (bringing culture and heritage to our stories)

15 April - Props. (How can we use objects to enhance our stories?) Includes crankies, scrolls, objects, sensory items and more

20 May - Hope. (How can we use our stories to bring hope and positivity into different situations?)

17 June - Site Specific. Making and telling stories in situ. How, where, why?

11th July - Secret Garden Stories. Our participants will have the chance to perform outdoors to a fantastic grown up audience at the Waterloo Festival.

Workshop Format:

  1. Welcome and short intro
  2. Live storytelling on the topic from participants (message me if you wish to tell )
  3. 5 minute break
  4. Short creative activity and Discussion on the topic.

If you want to tell a story or extract... great! Time limit is 7 minutes. Please email [email protected] in advance.

This workshop series was created in 2023 "to support and nourish the storytelling commuity in London". Our community includes well known professional storytellers, alongside writers and other creatives. It also includes keen amateurs, complete beginners, new people and those who are just curious! You will find a mixture of levels and experience in the workshops. Plenty of people come along on their own. Anyone is welcome to join in or just listen.

(We are generously supported by The Bridge at Waterloo, a non-denominational non -religious charity who let us use St John's building. There will be an opportunity to tap-to-donate to support The Bridge if you wish, but there is NO obligation and the sessions are free.)
