This year's shorts are:
Miriam
In 1985 Los Angeles, Miriam is chosen to be the first bat mitzvah in her Orthodox community, but she would rather be skateboarding. Featuring Justin Kirk (Succession, Weeds) as Miriam’s father.
The Cave Synagogue
This lyrical documentary follows Ugandan Abayudaya (Jewish) elder J.J. Keki as he hikes with his sons to the secret cave where Jews once prayed during the reign of dictator Idi Amin, keeping memory and song alive.
Still Waters
During lockdown, Rona slips into a mikvah to flee her abusive partner, confronting herself in the rawest way possible.
Chocolate Cake
In Tamar's kitchen, everything is ready for Grandma Havah's 80th birthday, and Grandma has made her famous chocolate cake—the one her son Yisrael loves the most. Now they wait for Yisrael to return home from his training exercise in the army, and for all the guests to arrive.
The Sacred Society
Hauntingly beautiful sand animation frames this portrait of men who perform the sacred duty of preparing the Jewish dead, revealing how ritual reshapes life and mortality.
Revived
After a night out at a Jerusalem gay bar, Aaron finds his bag is missing. Unable to return home without it, he receives help from Sefi, the bartender.
Fiddler on the Moon
Astronauts, scientists, and rabbis weigh in—seriously and hilariously—on one big question: can Judaism survive in space? Featuring Neil deGrasse Tyson, astronauts Jeffrey Hoffman and Jessica Meir, and a quorum of rabbis and researchers.
