About this Event
The Dylan Chandler Quintet is a London-based modern jazz project centred on original music that balances clarity and simplicity with musical depth and emotion. Bringing together four highly individual voices from the UK, Canada, and Dylan's own Spanish-English background, the Quintet crafts a sound that is both intimate and expansive, rooted in jazz and improvisation but shaped by influences from folk, pop, rock, and classical music.
Positioned within the contemporary European jazz landscape, the group avoids imitation and carbon copies in favour of a more personal language. Their music has been described as "simply complex": refined, yet expressive and captivating, drawing on their jazz training while remaining very melodic and direct. Their debut project, Alogia, explores the psychological and emotional impact of relocation. Inspired by Dylan's experience of living abroad, the work draws a parallel with alogia, a condition associated with reduced speech and language capacity, capturing the disorientation of entering a new cultural and linguistic space, and the gradual rebuilding of identity and expression that follows.
