Free lecture: The Bunce Altarpiece in St Alban’s Church
About this Event
Five painted panels by Birmingham Artist Kate Bunce depict the infant Jesus cradled by the wings of angels before the kneeling figure of Mary, flanked by adoring angels, St Patrick and St Alban, all in a beaten copper surround by her sister Myra. Images of many wild birds and flowers are included in the panels, and we have Kate Bunce’s own description of the complex iconography of each panel. Many features are comparable to an earlier altarpiece by the sisters at St Mary's, Longworth in Oxfordshire and a late altarpiece by Kate here in Birmingham at St Germain's, Edgbaston.
Toilets are available (including a wheelchair-friendly one).
Entrance for this event is through the step-free cloister entrance via a path beside the church from a gate on Stanhope Street.
There is no admission charge, but donations for our organ restoration fund are welcomed.
