Award-winning pianist and composer NICK MACLEAN leads his hard-swinging trio through an adventurous afternoon of modern jazz inspired by one of his greatest musical influences: the incomparable Herbie Hancock. A JUNO Award nominee, 10-time Global Music Award winner and one of Toronto’s most compelling young jazz voices, Maclean channels the searching spirit of Hancock’s seminal 1960s Blue Note recordings -- where sophisticated harmony, deep swing, fearless improvisation, and rhythmic invention continually collide. Expect music that can turn from cerebral to soulful, introspective to explosive, without ever loosening its grip on the groove.
